- Luke’s point is fairly obvious
- Christ is King
- Different kind of king
- Reigns from the cross
- But what does this mean?
- What does it have to do with us?
- What it does NOT mean
- Everything that happens is Christ’s will
- “God’s plan”, “Everything happens for a reason”
- Disease, accident, natural disaster?
- Everything that happens is Christ’s will
- Christ’s crucifixion itself?
- Christ endorses the agenda of the powers-that-be
- What it means
- Everything that exists/happens is material that Christ can work with (including the crucifixion)
- God’s vision – “the kingdom of heaven”
- Less to do with what happens
- More to do with who we are
- Christ is establishing a new order, over and against the powers-that-be
- God’s vision – “the kingdom of heaven”
- Was the cross God’s plan for Jesus?
- To say Yes is to accept the unacceptable (“cosmic child abuse”)
- Crucifixion was the powers’ plan for Jesus
- Prophets expose the sins of…
